This twist on the advent calendar is a fun project to do with the kids. For each day you get closer to Christmas, you snip off a little bit of Santa’s Beard! Follow these easy steps to create your own.
Items Needed

• 1 Sheet of Red Felt (Santa’s Hat and Nose)
• 1 Sheet of White Felt (Santa’s Hat & Remainder of Beard)
• 1 8 ½ X 11 White Sheet of Paper – You may also use lined paper from a school notebook (Beard)
• 1 Peach Colored Card Stock Paper (Santa’s Face)
• Red Paint (Santa’s Cheek’s)
• Paint Brush (Santa’s Cheek’s)
• Black Marker (Santa’s Eye’s and Numbering Beard)
• Glue

To start, number the white or lined paper 24-1 with 24 starting about a ½ inch from the top. Next, cut the paper around the numbers to create the shape of Santa’s beard. You want the beard to be wider the lower the number. Then you need to cut the pieces for Santa’s head and beard. You will need to cut:

• 1 red circle for the nose
• 1 red triangle for the hat
• 1 white circle for the top of the hat
• 1 white oval for the base of the hat
• 2 white half circles for the top of the beard (Cut out a circle then cut it in half)
• 1 white triangle with the top cut-off for the beard – the top of the beard should be the same width as the base of the hat
• 1 peach circle

Once you have all the pieces cut you will want to paint the face of Santa. Towards the middle of the circle you will take the black marker and make 2 dots for the eyes. For the cheeks take a small drop of the red paint and dilute with some water on a plate. Then take your paintbrush and press it onto the pain so it fans out over it. Then do the same thing to the bottom left and right side of Santa’s face. Now that you have all of the pieces glue them together to finish the project. If you want to hang your Santa to a door knob you can cut a hole through the top of Santa’s hat and tie a ribbon through it. • Linda Community Clean-up Sponsored by Recology Yuba-Sutter

If you live in Linda, grab a trash bag and a broom. This Saturday all residents are invited to clear out their garbage during the Third Annual Linda Community Cleanup. A collection area for trash, yard debris, appliances, old furniture, tires and scrap metal will be set up by Recology Yuba-Sutter at the Yuba County Airport from 8 a.m. to noon. Neighbors can work together to clear out yards and vacant lots to spruce up the entire community. Recology Yuba-Sutter is sponsoring the event and hauling away the additional garbage at no cost. Those participating must be Linda residents, and each household is limited to disposal of two appliances and no more than nine tires, in addition to other items. No hazardous materials may be dumped during the Saturday cleanup, but information will be provided about proper disposal of such items
